During Antioch Week, Apostle Markita Brooks, the Founder and Ministry Leader of The Truth In The Spirit, speaks briefly on "Who We Are and Our Vision for the Future". The Truth In The Spirit is the ministry that now stewards Antioch Church and Cemetery.
Historic Antioch Baptist Church is owned and stewarded by The Truth In The Spirit, a Messianic Apostolic Assembly of believers in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) who have come together from all walks of life, ethnicities and religious experiences to prepare for Messiah’s return.
We are “Messianic” in that our worship and doctrine come from the truth of the whole Bible--revealing and confirming itself--and the Jewish Roots of the Christian faith, to include spiritual observance of Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible) and proclaiming the Gospel made in Zion.
We are “Apostolic” in that we minister through and train others in the fivefold ministry gifts of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher.
Our “Assembly” is based at Antioch in Gloucester, VA, but we also have another assembly in Richmond, VA called Congregation Or Shalom, and we cover and support various other ministries throughout the world. For our weekly services, we are joined remotely and spiritually by our members, partners, supporters and students in the Body of Messiah from all over the globe.
The Truth In The Spirit is led by Apostle Markita Brooks and other elders and ministers. Apostle Markita Brooks is supported by her husband, Messianic Rabbi Hassan Brooks, who also leads with her. The senior elders responsible for direct stewardship of Antioch are Evangelist Frederika Jones, Pastor Rochelle Pailin and Teacher Temese Willis.
The Truth In The Spirit is a Bible-based, non-profit organization focused on empowering adults & youth and transforming our communities through proclaiming, demonstrating and teaching the following Seven Tenets:
GOD IS ONE—Deuteronomy 6:4
There is only one God, and He is one (united, complete, whole). The God of Israel, YHVH, is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He manifests in relationship with humanity in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. All three persons of God are united (one).
SALVATION THROUGH MESSIAH YESHUA (JESUS CHRIST) —John 3:16
Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) is the virgin-born Son of God who died for the sins of all mankind and rose from the dead so that we might be redeemed. We may only be saved through the acceptance of Yeshua (Jesus) as the Anointed One (Messiah) sent from God as our Redeemer. He will return to reign on earth with those who have believed in Him and obeyed His commandments.
UNITY IN FAITH —John 17:20-21
Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) was born into the nation of Israel with a mission to reconcile all people to God. Through Israel, the world received Yeshua (Jesus) and the Word of God. It was and is the prayer of Yeshua (Jesus) that all of God’s people, both Jews and Gentiles, would be one in Him as He is one with the Father.
THE WORD OF GOD—2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Holy Bible, in its entirety—to include the Hebrew Holy Scriptures (aka Old Testament) and the New Covenant (aka New Testament)—is the infallible Word of God. It authenticates and interprets itself, and can only be fully understood when read under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It helps to guide us into relationship with God, gives guidance in all areas of human life, and is necessary to understand God’s will in advancing His Kingdom.
TRUE, SPIRITUAL WORSHIP—John 4:24
Our Father God is everywhere, and we may worship Him at anytime through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Only through the Holy Spirit may we even fathom the truth about ourselves, and the world, and in so doing, present ourselves to God authentically and completely.
THE GREAT COMMISSION — Matthew 28:19
God wants all people to be redeemed. Nationality, race, gender and denomination are of no consequence. Therefore, we have a responsibility to share the Good News of salvation in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ), and welcome all to accept the triune God.
CHILDREN IN THE KINGDOM—Mark 10:14-15
Youth and adults must recognize that young people play an important role in advancing the Kingdom of God. Additionally, adults must obey and revere God as children are expected to obey and revere their parents.
